The Pig Hotel, Brockenhurst

The Pig Hotel is the perfect country retreat, hidden away in the New Forest in the village of Brockenhurst.  There are 29 elegant bedrooms in this very chic country house along with a ‘potting shed’ and ‘shepherds hut’, which have been turned into treatment rooms.  The shabby chic decor gives that perfect country feel and the hunter wellies lined up at reception make you want to go for a long stroll in the forest!  On a recent visit for lunch with some of my girlfriends I had such a wonderful day out I just had to share it…
So let’s get down to my favourite bit, the food!  To start with we tried the ‘The Piggy Bits’ and absolutely loved them!  The posh crackling and apple sauce are a great light bite to start you off.  On to the main, I had a chorizo risotto which, was delicious and did not disappoint my taste buds.  Declining dessert as we were stuffed we chose to reside in one of the lounges and chose a nice comfy sofa for a coffee by the fire.  After all that delicious food we took a stroll around the kitchen garden and saw the gardeners at work.  Followed by a little look at the treatment areas. The hotel has it’s own kitchen garden providing homegrown vegetables for the kitchen.  The menu varies depending on what produce is in season; anything that is not home grown on the grounds is locally sourced.  If you choose to stay at The Pig there is a whole lot of forest to discover with ponies and cattle roaming freely.  Spend a weekend walking in the forest and exploring the quaint village of Brockenhurst.
There is also The Pig in the Wall, a boutique bed and breakfast in Southampton, The Pig on the Beach in Dorset, The Pig near Bath and The Pig near Combe.  I for one can’t wait to try out all these piggy delights!
